The Origins of the Poster Child

In the 1930s, to raise money or awareness for certain diseases and deformities, they would take a picture of a child that has that thing and post it everywhere. Now this phrase has been used to say that somebody embodies a movement or an idea or a characteristic. A really literal example is Greta Tumberg. She is the poster child for stopping climate change. So if you do something at the drop of a hat, it means that you do something without delay.
