The Problem With Literary Realism in Representing Women's Sexual Lives
In Lez-Arnwa vid, the unwanted pregnancy and the abortion, give an insight into the ways in which private life has been shaped by literature. Women learn a particular, emotionally articulate, version of subjectivity from fiction. And it seems to me that Alno is saying we have to break that mold in order to be able to express other kinds of desire. She means, I think, forms of physical compulsion, including sex, but also other kinds of hunger.
