In 1979, the purchaser of the auction slippers donated those to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. That Memphis woman who won the pair in the 40s or whatever, she sold them in 1988 to a collector at an auction for $165,000. The collector was a huge Garland fan and he'd seen her in concert 35 times and even attended her funeral. And so that person turned around and loaned the Ruby slippers to Disney World for display before selling them an auction in 2004, $666,000.
