The Problem Is That Human Beings Love Principled Arguments
Part of the problem is that human beings really, really, really love to come up with principled arguments that just happend to confirm their self interest. And if you're telling people that ethically and morally, that, a, you're in the right. A, they were trying all over the place to get the con sequences they wanted without a the evidence or arguments required to make those consequences worth while. The whole way that a liberal democracy works is in rule of law worgs, is that you have to respect the law or the rules, even when they are inconvenient to you.
