Is There Inflection on the Verb?
The Baskin languages have a generic object and generic subject markers. When you add an applicative to a transitive verb, what happens to the original direct object? Two possibilities. It can stay there and you just get two direct objects, however your language marks those. Or the original object is kicked out, and if it's expressed at all, it has to use some sort of oblique phrase or whatever. Different languages cope with that differently, so you get to pick.
