Willie Mae, Big Mama Thornton was born in Alabama in 1926. In 1951 she signs to a small and exploitative label called Peacock Records. She has a couple of failed singles. So in August 52, she gets into the studio with two young white Jewish songwriters,. They are brought in to write her a hit, which I assume is Houndog.
