Myth of the Month 16: The Founding Fathers

Historiansplaining: A historian tells you why everything you know is wrong

CHAPTER

All the Founding Fathers Believed in a Republican Form of Government

i want to emphasize in place of this myth is that many different people embraced the revolution or called for independence for many different reasons. And they went into it with different hopes and expectations of what an independent america would look like. So it's not even true to say that all the founding fathers believed in a republican form of government. There was ambivlence and disagreement even on that point. The basic cluding point i want to make again is just any general statement where one speaks about the founding fathers is necessarily political. It serves a political egenda, rooted in an eletist assumption.
