Axie Infinity is really a bellwether for the nascent Web3 games business. There was no path for long-term players to an elder game as it stood in 2021. The lack of a low-cost entry model for new players seemed to encourage hoarding, which would lead to further cycles of asset inflation. Andres and Horowitz out of their crypto fund plowed like 150 million into a venture round for Axie's parent company.
