Identity Comes First
The human brain evolved in small groups, and the way that we communicated was by telling stories around a camp fire with other people. Great leaders can take a situation and frame it in a narrative and give a sense of purpose to to a group in that narrative. Convincing people to do the right thing in the pendemic is not just giving them the best scientific information. Most scientists don't realize this. If they're going to make sacrifices, it has to be meaningful. And so that's why you can't just communicate science by just sharing aloutographs and figures and facts and and scientific references.
