The Importance of the Emperor in China in the 20th Century

The figure of the emperor played a larger role in politics of post-chain regimes than usually understood. The importance is to remind ourselves that the revolution, you know, 1911 and 1912, is not nearly as stark a divide as many of the revolutionaries themselves would have wanted us to believe. And I think for me in the conclusion, the thing that's important is the emperor as stand in for the center and for unity.
