How to Move a Snake
Snake has got hundreds of ribs, but no sternum, no breastbone. This means that a snake can move its ribs independently of each other and independently of the ribs on the other side. It's also useful for spreading along the ground as they crawl - you can see it in the rectilinium motion which people call caterpillar crawl. And then there's leaping out the trees and gliding. There's four or five modes of locomotion to help snakes navigate difficult terrain.
