Using Telecom Cables as Measurement Tools
The first realization that you could really use this socinificat picture of the earth and not just detect, oh, something changed came from oil and gas exploring things down wells. The technique essentially gives you a sizetmometer every couple of meters, which is insane coverage. If you have a cable forty kilometers long, and you get a simometer equivalent every two meters, versus a place that might just have one sized termometer, gives you thi crazy density of measurement.
