The Death Drive
All drives are death drives on account of their relation to the living subject within the sexual cycle, Lacan writes. Sexed being is a deadly being because it subordinates the libido as pure undivided life to bipolarities of sexual reproduction at the level of the species. A species only survives in the form of its individuals and each individual is transitory. We are programmed to die. And it's a damn good thing that we do because I don't think this planet could foster any more humans.
