Ailie caught the construction bug working on the boston big dig. She then oversaw the transformation of saint pancras station in london from a crumbling gothic building to state of the art terminal for urostar. Her next challenge was cross rail, the new east west rail line for london that's expected to carry about 200 million passengers beneath the capital every year. Ailie felt a responsibility to move the dial on the diversity of people working on big civil engineering projects. And introduced a purposeful approach to recruitment. As a result, 30 % of her top team of engineers were women. Not enough, she says, but it was a lot better than the industry average
