The History of Data Protection

Data has been an extremely elusive concept, really hard to pin down. The term came out of theologians using it to mean things sort of stipulated for the sake of conversation and taken for granted. Only in very recent times does data come to be associated with technology, specifically digital technologies. And that is when the first early national data protection laws were coming on the scene around the time that personal computers and the computing revolution was happening.
