Is CRISPR Safe?
The only people who could be helped by this are very, very few people. We're just helping them to meet their desires, not actually doing anything more fundamental than that. In mammals in particular, this is very, very sensitive and in some cases, so in human cell lines, not in embryos, but in human cells, performing CRISPR can lead to the loss of a whole chromosome. So for all those reasons, I don't think there's any reason why we should do this and the dangers are so extreme. The question is, how is this technology going to be distributed? Is it going to be equitably distributed? Well, I think we know the answer to that.
