The pursuit of equality paradoxically leads to a more unequal and embittered society in practice. According to cultural relativism, all cultures are equally valid and entitled to equal respect. However, most income cannot be redistributed because it was not distributed in the first place. The bitter irony is that all this philosophical self-indulgence widens the empirical gap in the name of narrowing it.
