The Eastern Empire and the Western Empire
All of Asia Minor, the modern day heartland of Turkey, belonged to the Empire. Cities like Vienna and Cologne were military bases home to thousands of soldiers. The eastern part of the Empire didn't really fall, at least not in the way the western empire did. It was the Latin-speaking portion that stretched from London to Belgrade that fell.
