The Rise and Fall of the Movie Theater
Thomas Lamb was born in Scotland in 1871 and immigrated to the US in the early 80s. He would study at Cooper Union and become really the city's most I would say distinguished architect of theaters both legitimate and then awesome movie theaters obviously and movie palaces. His style tended to be you know classical style that looked like European opera houses. The day after it opened the daily news carried a photo of just like hundreds of people right in their evening attire jamming into the Roxie's ornate lobby. Meanwhile thousands lacking the coveted invitations jammed the streets for hours milling around in vain efforts to get by 80 policemen who kept clear the entire block.
