The Origins of the Anglo American Railroad System
During the gold rush there had been all these it's really the foundation of you know Anglo American law on the west coast was the exclusion of foreign miners from mining claims. Leland is in some ways the face of bringing Chinese labor into the railroad system right and there are Chinese people in America before. But that what happened at this point was that a lot of them had been put into domestic work which is whether you know laundry's and stuff like that. The rails brought in a lot of new migrants that were paid like two thirds of what like they would pay to white person right. It wasn't like slave labor or kulee labor or something like that it was it was skilled construction labor
