I was one of the commissioners for a report that just came out this week by IPPR. We need to rethink the role of, you know, patient finance also and mainly in some ways in the public sector. But my point is always be careful just because you have public money and it's going to be long term itself isn't enough. What is it you're financing? Who decides? Is it some dictator or one pet project of a politician? If we really believe in value created collectively, we should also be using the democratic process in different ways to engage citizens into having a debate about what would a green transition look like.
In this two-part episode recorded in 2018, economist and author Mariana Mazzucato discusses her book, The Value of Everything, with UK Labour MP Stella Creasy. It's a wide-ranging discussion looking at how real wealth is created in our economy and how we can measure the true worth of both infrastructure and services. Mariana Mazzucato is Professor in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value at University College London.
We’d love to hear your feedback and what you think we should talk about next, who we should have on and what our future debates should be.
