In America, it's really the undergraduate programs that sort of drive the engine. A lot of my interaction with other disciplines at MIT was through the serving on a curriculum committee. I was often in conflict with my scientists colleagues because we have a lot of required science. Every MIT undergraduate has to take two semesters of calculus,. Two semesters of physics, a semester of biology and a semester of chemistry.
