Pete peeps was a fellow of the royal society, which had received its first charter from charles the second in 16 62. The members wished to gain that knowledge through practical experimentation. He visited saint paul's cathedral two months after it reopened following an earlier fire and wrote about how people flocked to see what had happened immediately after the great fire. In his diary he also describes seeing the corpse of robert braybrook - who tried to stop people shooting at birds and playing football in the churchyard. This was a strange, rare way of conserving a corpse. And both men survived this potentially hazardous experiment. But did they survive? Yes, both appear to have done so
