Land north of central park was opened for development by tammany hall and boss tweed. The earliest german jewish community in harlem dates back to 18 69, which was a community relocating from the lower east side that founded its synagogue in harlem in 18 73. There would be a lot of tenement construction taking place once those second and third avenue elevated opened over by the trains along second and third Avenue.
