There's certainly some like heritable risk factors for addiction. If you have a family history, then you're more vulnerable to it. People tend to hang around with people who drink similar amounts to them. A lot of people have this kind of stereotype of what an alcoholic looks like. It's very easy to convince yourself that you're not doing yourself any harm when in fact you might be. There are lots of self-help things which are very helpful. Dry January can be quite helpful because people may think they'll find it quite easily but they may find it more difficult than they first thought. And if you do notice a problem, perhaps trying to engage your friends or colleagues is the best
