Freud's Acquisition of Grediva
Grediva is one of the most dramatic pieces really in Freud's collection. Carl Jung recommended Jensons novel to Freud, and he ended up writing a short book in response. Grediva begins with an account of a young archaeologist who becomes attracted to this bar relief representing a walking woman,. He sees it in the Vatican Museums; then after he's returned home, he purchases a copy of this relief and hangs it on his study wall. It became a fashion amongst psychoanalysts to have a Grediva hanging in their consulting rooms in homage to Freud.
