The Importance of Yoko Local

Yelp was founded in 2004 by Max Hastings, who dropped out of business school to start the company. He says he and his co-founder David Galbraith were working on a new internet idea at the time. They wanted to call it Yoko but couldn't find someone that would part with the domain for $5,000. PayPal's Scott Bannister helped them come up with their own name: Yelp.
