The FBI's Response to the F the Police Song
In 1988, a rap group from Compton, California named NWA releases a controversial song, F the police. In that song, the members of NWA liken themselves to prosecutors as they called out the racist brutality of the Los Angeles Police Department. They were telling their truth in that song and giving voice to countless black Americans who were experiencing the same things across the country. But that song put NWA in the FBI's crosshairs. A spokesperson for the FBI sent the group's record to label a letter criticizing the song for violence against law enforcement officers.
