Social Media Cooperatives - Lessons Learned

Small and federated is what people are proposing for alternative social media spaces. When you ha sufficiently small spaces, it's probably easier for the communities to be involved with actually managing them. What are lessons learned from a platform co operatism about how groups learn how to govern themselves? The larger these cooperatives get, the harder it is to really offer democratic governments.
