The Government's Policy Towards the Railway Industry Is Shortsighted

The only type of public transport that really makes sense for us in this country is rail. If we want more people to get out of cars and use public transport, then the railway must expand. It cannot be reduced. And if you listen to what government ministers are putting up in interviews on the t v they're talking about a managed decline of the railway industry. But what the country needs is an expanded railway, and that's where the demand is going to come. We're never going to see the situation where the railway is relegated to second place behind private coal.
