The soviet union embarked on a huge map making initiative, topographic map making. This is before world werd to of course, and effectively to insure that the resources of the state could be brought under control. The idea then, to really expand, not just the mapping of the soviet Union, which was completed, won to a hundred thousand scale in the 19 fifties,. But also to expand that to other territories in western europe and beyond. We start to see city plans, for example, of cities in aran towards the end of the 19 forties, and even within britain by the time we got to the 19 f50s. So again
