The Precursor to Baseball Cards
Photographers in this era would often take pictures of famous people for free. They gave the person they photographed a couple of hundred pocket sized copies of the photo to hand out. And so it's wy celecting baseball card. Douglas was, in a sense, the first baseball card figure. Before long, he became the most photographed american in the nineteenth century. There are more separate photographs of douglas than of lincoln grant any one else.
