Original Sin in the Catholic Tradition

In the Catholic tradition, original sin is understood as a privation. We're born in a state where we're lacking something that God wants us to have. And so original sin is the term that we've come to use to describe this fallen state in which we exist. The scholastics came to distinguish picatum originali, originons from picatumoriginali, original to him.
