#515: Aristotle's Wisdom on Living the Good Life

The Art of Manliness

CHAPTER

Aristotle's Teleology of Happiness

Aristotle's idea of felicity is a sense of satisfaction with your own performance as a human. You can only achieve this form of happiness in interaction with your fellow humans, he says. Accomplishing telos means fulfilling potential that you're born with - and everybody is different. A child who hates maths will never ever be really good at maths. As a child who doesn't like babies will probably never be a really good parent. And if somebody makes you have a career as a charter to count, you won't ever achieve your full potential because you could be in a fabulous gardener. He's very sad about the waste of human potential.
