The Minowans on Crete

Several Greek islands, especially those in the cyclodies, show evidence of being under Minowan control. This presents itself through much of the artwork and pottery uncovered which are described as Minowan. Also on many of these islands, there is evidence of a palace society similar to that found on Crete where the economy was centred on the palace. To be able to protect these shipping routes and colonies, the Minowans would have had to exert a powerful influence throughout the region. They may have only become vulnerable once the Aegean influences had been disrupted from a massive military defeat by Herodotus.
