The new deal delivered on its promise. It moderated inequality, some economists referred to the period from the 1940s to the 1970s as the great compression. Whole sections of the American population were lifted through these state interventions into the middle class. The deregulatory mission of neoliberalism was felt in sector after sector of the economy. But it's a starkly different way of organizing the economy.
