The Importance of Language Learning in Schools

I think we suffer from the fact that English is our first language. And we suffer as a result because young people aren't perhaps surrounded by the language they're learning in school. I would have to see that there are two things, two sort of influences there that are important to recognise. One is that when it comes to learning facts and so then it's very often the exam that is determining that. Therefore teachers perhaps feel the need to teach to the exam. The other area is where the management of a school is not understanding what a language is or therefore trying to just put Spanish students and French students in the same class.
