The Difference Between a VPS and a Home Box Node
If you do it at the router level then you don't need to do it for any device that you connect onto your network and so therefore all of the traffic that you've generated throughout your entire internet history is protected by a VPN. You're not subject to these laws where you know you've got two years worth of metadata being collected because you're using Mulvad DNS. The alternative is to try and run it literally bare metal in your own home but this comes with some trade-offs as well.
