The Importance of Hospitalist Work

A lot of people who choose to go into hospitalist medicine say, why should I do an ID fellowship if I can get paid just as much if not more for hospitalist work and not even have to do those extra years of training? That's one of the myths, especially if we're talking about private practice, that you're going to make more being a hospitalist than an ID physician. The nature of the work wasn't gratifying. It was just not the type of work that I would enjoy doing.
