And to put that in context, for a basic rate taxpayer, if you are paying 4 thousands 300 pounds a year for your commute. You need to earn six thousand 300 pounds in order to do it. If you are on a 50000 pound salary, which is a very good salary, then you will be paying 12 % of your annual earnings just to go to work. I don't think that that's a sensible system.
