Is the Iraq War a Product of the Cold War?
The Bush doctrine which grows out of neo conservatism is based on the idea that with the Soviet Union having gone away, smaller possible threats to the US have forgotten just how powerful the US actually is. So it's definitely a project of the post-Cold War period, and instead they feel that they are having to deal with threats that they shouldn't really be having to dealing with. If there had been a credible strategic rifle, you would have had other ways of demonstrating that power without necessarily having to go after a smaller possible threat. That is very much the logic that they're following at this time.
