The False Identity of My Mother

A group of Polish diplomats worked out they could give these to Jews and it might give them some exchange value. My mother was one of only 136 people who were exchanged as a result of this scheme. Himmler had realized relatively earlier on that the Nazis might not win the war and was after that looking for leverage in lots of different ways. And so if you had a document that meant that you had this value, even though the Nazis knew it was false, everyone did too.
