What Is Contemplation?
Prayer is not about saying prayers, but existing in a state of communion. That's what we call contemplation. And I'm convinced that's why the desert fathers and mothers already in the third and fourth century started changing the word prayer to the word contemplation. All the key words are given in the Sermon on the Mount. If you take the, there's about three or four paragraphs on prayer. He's describing what we are now trying to describe as contemplation. So don't be frightened by the word.
