i agree with you that when obama came to power, the liberal left and centr imagined that things could be done. But i think it's really important to see that even then, that centre and that that a liberal coalition was totally asleep at the wheel. Plain to the centre, triangulating in the same way that clinton did on foreign policy, guantonimo, deportations of migrants, and quiescent in general about races, economic and social policy in america. So i agree withyou that that was the assumption, but it was a bad assumption.
