The Strange Paradox of Black Households in America
Last week we took three groups, slaves and then later blacks in America. And we showed some political advances that they were able to make. I think what we would only refer to as against all odds. It's really kind of astonishing how well they've done, given where they started. How do you explain that? I don't think the majority and impulse explains it in the least. As a matter of fact, there's probably other things swimming below the surface that you really have to think about. The story becomes even more interesting when you start to look at middle class and rich households amongst the middle class. Roughly, there were two thirds as much representation of blacks among the middle class
