Among the students was at least one spy. He thought to himself, you go with them not the shortest way. You go through Kufuszendam. That they see it with their own eyes. By the end of the night, one East German soldier was dead. The tunnel had been destroyed with grenades and 57 people had escaped. And so the tunnel became known as Tunnel 57.
