The Iron-Gaul Manuscript
Bristol fragments were written with a specific kind of carbon-based ink called lamp black. Lamp black was used instead of the iron-gaul ink since the text appeared dark under infrared light. We're not sure why they used it for this particular manuscript. Possibly to save money, it was certainly cheaper to mix ink with sort than to use the ingredients for iron-Gaul ink.
