There's a lot of finger pointing once you get into the weeds here. The carbon market which exists is basically like a world for corporations to make green pronouncements and they purchase offsets in order to make public claims about offsetting their emissions. There are forward exchanges on this Chicago Mercantile Exchange where people can buy forwards for certain kind of carbon credit. Each one of these credits have different certifications there's whole bodies that exist with different years and different vintages so the amount of information asymmetry possible in this world is just incredibly abstract.
