How Did Ed Dwight Become an Astronaut?

In 1961, there was a black guy who was trying to become an astronaut. He joined the Air Force and reached these kind of high positions of becoming an officer pilot. As NASA's looking for people to send to their astronaut training program, he became unavoidable as an option because of just how talented he was at flying.
