Headmarking and Dependency Marking
A head is a word which governs or otherwise determines the possibility of occurrence of another word. In a possessive phrase, the possessor is dependent and the thing possessed, also known as the possessome, is the head. Without something to possess, there is no reason for you to have a Possessor phrase. So that's what we're talking about. And we can go through other sorts of phrases in a few moments.
